Gymnasium

The gymnasium is designed as a cross-training/dance space and also provides changing facilities for the existing courts and playing fields. The gymnasium is located on a bank between two levels of playing courts. Changing rooms and outdoor seating are cut into the bank at the lower court level. The gymnasium sits at the upper court level and overhangs the seating to provide outdoor cover. As the gymnasium space was not required to stage ball sports it could be designed as a glazed pavilion sitting atop the changing rooms. A large horizontal section door opens out to the upper court level. The building received a NZIA National Award in 2004.
